Wool carpet

It was the Persians who introduced the art of carpet weaving into Kashmir. Though Akbar set up carpetworkshops in cities like Agra and Lahore it was not until his grandson Shah Jehan who ruled during the 17th century that carpet weaving truly developed.
Time has taken its toll on this carpet the rich hues of deep maroons and blues have now been mutedand the carpet is threadbare at places, but the beauty of the piece is unmistakable. Ornate and full of arabesque pattern it is a breath taking piece.
