Wool carpet

It was the Persians who introduced the art of carpet weaving into Kashmir.Though Akbar set up carpet workshops in cities like Agra and Lahore it was not until his grandson Shah Jehan who ruled during the 17th century that carpet weaving truly developed.
This elegantly conceived carpet seems to have been made to appeal to the tastes of a European user. The use of pastel shades of green and blue is one indicator it is the choice of the motif - a typical European urn with stylized flowers that sets the tone for the carpet. The carpet has a narrow border in contrasting tones of red and a compact well structured motif.
