Moment of Joy is an iridescent celebration of the potency of the fantastic. Oddly garbed characters exist in fellowship with exotic animals. Burman`s bizarre combination of imagery is almost Surrealist in its delicate adherence to dreamscapes and unconscious wishes. "He does not relive in painting the life he lives away from painting. Not that he does not paint in his own portrait as a painter, his daughter or grandson as he does in many of his recent works but that does not alter the dream- soaked infrastructure of the unreal world of his canvases." (p. 130, M. Majumdar, Sakti Burman: Dreamer on the Ark, Pundole Art Gallery, 2001)
However, unlike some of the Surrealist`s "automatic" techniques, where the unconscious is allowed to manifest itself impulsively without conscious mediation, Burman`s creations are exquisitely controlled. His style, simulating the antique glamour of aging Renaissance frescos, is noted for its marvelously intricate use of paint. "Each of Sakti`s canvases looks as finished as a meticulous filigree work. He creates a chequered chromatic surface of visual splendor by means of a tense network of varied tones and textures charged in every detail with strong but disciplined aesthetic stimulation." (p. 10,Ibid.)
