The Sikh prince is seated against a green bolster, garbed in exquisite attire. The artist has painted the designs on his turban and cloak with meticulous attention to detail. The scabbard tucked into his patka is fashioned as a tiger head, while a long sword with tassels at the pommel dangles by his side, symbolic of his religion and stature. As is characteristic of Guler paintings, the lines are fine and light. "In the first two decades of the nineteenth century some Guler painters who were working for the Guler, Kangra, and Chamba courts moved to the Punjab plains to work for... the Sikh governors." (Ohri and Craven eds., Pahari Schools, p. 133)
