KURDISH CARPET FROM NORTH PERSIA

A handsome long format carpet (sometimes referred to as a kelleh) from the northern section of the Zagros mountains of Persia. This carpet is a classic in the true sense: a beautiful diamond-shaped central medallion is flanked by two smaller pendant medallions on the top and bottom ends. The variegated brick red field, with an abrash effect, is overlaid with numerous large-scale paisley botehs or teardrop-shaped motifs. Two narrow borders frame the field and are adorned with abstract flowering vines. Tightly woven with good wool and beautiful mellow dyes.

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung

Circa mid 19th century
Handwoven, wool, natural dyes
