This painting is a unique iteration of the relationship Chowdhury is so fascinated by. As a man and woman have a conversation in bed, the contrasts between them scream to be noticed. Dressed in stark white, and rendered with a flat application of pastel, the man stretches in readiness for bed. The woman, naked and textured with the cross-hatching that has become a hallmark of Chowdhury’s work, instead sits up, ready for a conversation. Emphasized by the strong colours and textures of the decorative sheet on the bed and the turquoise wall behind them, these differences push viewers to question the dynamics of the relationship that the two figures share.
