EXHIBITION - Contemporary & Period Silverware (Sep 25-Oct 05, 2012) :

This autumn Saffronart brings together a unique blend of contemporary and period designs in their latest exhibit on silverware. This exhibition will be held at Saffronart Delhi starting September 24 to October 5th 2012 and is the first exhibition on Silverware.

Silver has been crafted since centuries and this shiny metal has appealed to people across cultures. It has been acquired for the value as a precious metal as well as the beauty of the object – be it coins, jewellery or objects. Today India is one of the few places where silver continues to be handcrafted into exquisite object.

The exhibition features silver table lamps and vases crafted in clean linear patterns to suit homes today. One can also find unusual and ultra modern designs for objects of contemporary use like - cheese and fruit platters that are created in clean shapes and form with a minimalist use design adding to the appeal of a home. Along with the ultra modern pieces one can also find an exquisitely carved bowl that could add to the festive mood. Some of the pieces have been combined with stones to add a hint of colour and drama for instance a bowl which has an elephant carved in Lobrodite stone. Keeping mind the festive season also included is a unusual puja thali – complete with a silver bell, diya and small offering bowl, but what makes it sets this apart from the others is the fluted design and the use of blue stone with flecks of gold in it.

Complementing the contemporary silverware included are some unique hallmarked sterling silver pieces – like some exquisite tea sets which a must have in the nineteenth and twentieth century homes.
