- - Mata ni Pachedi, literally translated as "behind the Mother Goddess," refers to a sacred tradition of the Vaghri community in Gujarat that began 300 years ago, when members of the community were barred from temples. To overcome this, they created a ritual textile that depicted and became a symbolic representation of their deity, serving as a portable shrine for worship independent of architectural or spatial constraints.
