The most stunning quality of this rug is the abrash, or the gradual colour gradation, in this instance from a deep indigo to brown to a dull orange. Abrash is a mark of the age of the carpet as well as ascertaining the fact that the wool was dyed using natural pigments. Another unique feature would be the central field, covered with the classic herati motif - which can be described as a flower centered within a diamond shape with curving leaves outside the diamond that are parallel to each side. The skill that has gone into the weaving of the herati is high. The central medallion is an ornate flower. The border is delicate with a floral trellis pattern all around.
