One of the first successful Warli artists, and certainly the most widely known, Jivya Soma Mashe is inspired by the tribal folklore and stories of celebration that are narrated to the children in his tribe from a very early age. An important aspect in his works is the fluidity with which he paints every object and figure. There is a sense of constant movement within the paintings, yet each detail is incorporated with utmost precision. In the present painting, the beauty of the dance form and its mesmerising rhythmic movement are echoed in the concentric formation of figures that Mashe has painted.
