Description of the Mughal Empire. Contains a hydrographic network, provinces, and main cities. It corresponds mainly to northern India, delimited by Tartary, Persia, Arabian Sea, Bengal, and the Bay of Bengal, previously called, according to Ptolemy's toponymy, Sinus Gangeticus.

Olfert Dapper (1635-1689)
He was a Dutch physician and writer. He wrote about Africa, China, India, Persia, Georgia, and Arabia extensively. His influence can be felt through the ages; even today, his book Description of Africa (1668) is a key text for Africanists.

He published a large number of books after 1663. He wrote a history of the city of Amsterdam and furnished the first Dutch translation of Herodotus. But he is known particularly for his many descriptions of foreign lands, which he compiled from various sources, without ever seeing the countries he wrote about for himself. This map of North India is taken from a description of Asia.
