High quality printed Quran in a customized box with Intarsia

High quality printed Quran with 516 pages measuring 13.5 x 10 x 1.25 in (34.5 x 25.5 x 3.5 cm) with full leatherbound and gilt decoration on the boards enclosed in a box decorated with Intarsia measuring 15.5 x 11.5 x 4 in (39.5 x 29.5 x 10.2 cm), cladded with red velvet from inside.

This exquisite box exemplifies the Islamic-inspired Intarsia technique, which is entirely formed of geometrical patterns and, as such, is more difficult to put within a specific context.

The Intarsia technique is a woodworking or decorative art form that involves creating a pictorial or patterned design by fitting together various pieces of differently colored or textured materials, typically wood, to form a mosaic-like composition. The term intarsia comes from the Italian word intarsiare, which means to inlay. This technique has been used for centuries to create intricate designs on furniture, cabinetry, and decorative objects.

Intarsia involves carefully selecting and shaping different pieces of wood or other materials, such as bone, ivory, or metal, to create a design that is then assembled and glued onto a base material, typically a wooden panel. The pieces of material are precisely cut and shaped to fit together like a puzzle, with each piece representing a specific part of the design, such as a color, texture, or pattern. The individual pieces are then glued onto the base material to create the final design. One of the unique aspects of Intarsia is that the pieces are typically cut to different thicknesses, which allows for depth and dimensionality in the final composition. This technique can create a three-dimensional effect, giving the design a sense of depth and realism. The technique can be used to create a wide range of designs, from simple geometric patterns to highly detailed scenes, landscapes, and portraits. It requires a high level of skill, precision, and attention to detail, as the pieces must fit together perfectly to create the desired image. The materials used in intarsia can be natural wood with different colors and textures, or they can be dyed or stained to achieve the desired colors and effects.

The result of using the Intarsia technique to create a box for keeping the Holy Quran is a unique and ornate piece of functional art that can be cherished as a symbol of reverence and respect for the sacred text. These boxes often showcase the beauty of the Intarsia technique and are valued for their intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail.
