Handwoven, wool, mixed dyes
72.75 x 48.75 in (185 x 124 cm)

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung

A beautiful abstract tribal weaving from the Zagros mountains of southwest Persia, probably woven by a nomadic lady from the Luri tribal group. The lustrous red field contains a bold central white medallion, probably representing a pond in the courtyard of a village dwelling. The medallion contains a single-lobed cross symbol. Several other abstract icons are scattered across the field representing flora and fauna in the surrounding mountain areas. The naïvely drawn border system contains interconnected geometric abstract floral vines.
