Before cinema halls across the world made the transition to digital modes of distribution and projection, they would work with reels of large format tape to show feature films. These reels would be distributed to various cinemas and queued up in sequence on the projector at the time of showing. The reels would then be stored safely in between showings to avoid any form of damage. Wooden chests of drawers similar to the present lot were used for this kind of storage. The enclosed nature of the drawers ensured minimal damage due to UV light and dust while maintaining the ambient temperature necessary for the reels.
