Born in 1976 in Chennai, Nandini Valli Muthiah received her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Madras University in 1998, after which she received her Master’s degree in French Translation and Interpretation from Pondicherry University in 2000. Muthiah then attended the Arts Institute at Bournemouth, where she trained as a professional photographer 2002 to 2005.

A few of the solo exhibitions that her work has been featured in are 'Remembering to Forget' and two shows titled 'The Definitive Reincarnate’ at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai in 2011, 2008 and 2007 respectively. Amongst several others, her work has been exhibited in the group exhibitions 'Contemporary: A Selection of Modern and Contemporary Art', presented by Sakshi Gallery at The Park, Chennai; and 'Cynical Love: Life in the Everyday' at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi, both in 2012.
