From 1949 Fernand Léger began to work in ceramic, making reliefs, mosaics and sculptural forms in his distinctive style. He created a number of large scale commissions such as the mosaics for the church of the Plateau d'Assy in France and the University of Caracas, as well as large outdoor sculptures in painted ceramic.
