CAUCASIAN CARPET

A magnificent Caucasian carpet with a design sometimes attributed to the boteh or paisley shawls originating from the Kashmir region, or based on the composition used in formal Persian garden carpets. The central field panel is subdivided into four vertical rows, each of which is filled with a scrolling vine made from paisley inspired flowers. The wide major border contains double stacked birdhead icons laid in a zigzag formation of alternating reciprocal pairs. The entire composition is drawn in a beautiful range of lustrous colours and woven with soft long staple high mountain wool.

There is a black fabric sleeve sown on the back of the carpet in case it is desired to be hung
