The only view of the Taj Mahal in Oriental Scenery is accurately identified as a component of a much larger architectural complex through its emphasis on the southern entrance. However, this strategic choice inadvertently obscures the tomb's individual significance. Thomas Daniell's depiction of the mausoleum was presumably criticised; therefore, he created two perspectives of the Taj Mahal in 1801 that were nearly 3 feet (90cm) in breadth and presented in a larger format. …….. Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor, constructed the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his beloved wife, known as Mumtaz-i-Mahal, "The Elect of the Palace", who passed away in 1629. Shah Jahan, it is said, intended to construct a black marble tomb for himself across the river; however, he was interred alongside her after his demise (Archer op. cit).
