GAURI


Gauri is an avatar of Uma or Parvati, the consort of Shiva. The present lot shows her standing on a lotus while holding a lotus blossom in each of her upper hands and a kundika (water pitcher) in her lower left hand. She is dressed in an ankle-length garment that has finely delineated folds and an ascetic’s belt around her waist. The central figure of Gauri is surrounded by various animal motifs as she gazes outward serenely.
