A MAGNIFICENT AND RARE SILVER REPOUSSE PRESENTATION SHIELD OF BIKANER STATE, CIRCA 1930S

Silver
2542 grams
17 in (43.2 cm) diameter

A large presentation plaque of domed circular form in exquisite repousse in high relief, with the Royal Bikaner crest bearing in the centre and foliate decoration throughout. This shield was believed to be commissioned as a presentation piece of heavy gauge silver with superb and crisp details to commemorate a special occassion. Presentation shields are rare finds, and therefore highly collectible. One such shield can be found in the Royal Collection Trust with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It was presented to King Edward II, when he was the Prince of Wales, on his India tour in 1875-76 by Ranbir Singh, Maharaja of Kashmir.
