Each plate is described with helpful annotations, aiding their appreciation; half leather bound with gilt title at the spine with five raised bands, top edge gilt.

Three series in one folio volume.
First Series: Late Fifteenth and Early Sixteenth Centuries, with mainly late fifteenth century Gothic examples
Second Series: Sixteenth Century, from Francis I to the death of Charles IX
Third Series: Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries, comprises of carvings
