Can you tell us a little about how your creative process has developed over the last ten years, since your graduation, and also about the various influences that have shaped your art over this period?
For me, creativity is an ability to test the self in the cosmic world with purity and humanity. It is quite an interesting journey to detach the self from the greedy and materialistic world. If a person is unable to get into meditation with a spiritual journey, than creativity is the easiest process to do so. But, equally, it can be dissolved in to impurity. So the development of art cannot be justified on a calculative basis as mathematics, but involvement, dedication and reasoning with the self. The process is shaping at its own cause and collectively gets inspiration from the past. I cannot be biased by any historical movements with art, but get inspired with the existing practicing artist community and dialogues.
Where do the hybrid creatures that populate your works emerge from? Are they all products of your imagination, or are there any mythic and cultural sources that you draw from?
The myth is a constructive and destructive force in the world. The important factor is to purify the soul with narration of thoughts, recording the day-to-day events of the subconscious mind and active participation of endless imagination. This world is full of various creatures, which we try to overlook without its importance. Once the pencil shows a particular form, the other form is overlapped. As a process, multiple forms are created as individual drama of given space. This even leads to hidden images, which could be the awakening of subconscious mind to create one more world of surrealism. No image is constructive but envelops the form according to time and simultaneously changes to its need. In similarity to Greek myth our own Indian fables of ‘Panchatantra’ are quite effective to hybrid formation, as human moral values are explained with animals. Since the whole process plays a significant role in my concerns of human activity towards world cycle of natural habitats emphasizes preservation and protection or the hybridization will become necessary for next generation.
Are there any messages for the viewers that lie beyond the initial, playful appearance of your works?
I am not an artist who pursues the onlooker to concern my view points and directions. It is the members of society who interact with the works with personal experiences and narrate their own story for cause and happiness. Hence the work is relatively viewer oriented and he is the one explains to me his satisfaction and problems.
How has your training in printmaking affected your practice? Is there a reason you switched to printmaking for your Masters specialization?
I understand the possibilities of printmaking nature, as it is unique in its own right. The possibility of non-satisfaction keeps me thirsty to achieve some goals in life. As we say ‘every answer gives rise to new questions’. Without this there would have been no inventions. For example, Rembrandt van Rijn tried multiple etchings to understand the depth in light. So, I consider printmaking as one of the highest forms of struggle, and one who achieves it will never curse his existence as an individual or justice for salvation.
