For contemporary artist and illustrator Sameer Kulavoor, art is a means to explore and understand the extent to which time, culture, politics and socio-economic conditions influence our inner and outer worlds. Born in 1983, Kulavoor received his education from Sydenham College and the Sir J J School of Art in Mumbai.
Kulavoor’s body of work extends across a range of artistic disciplines, including drawing, illustration and design. As a result, his works take the form of paintings, murals, books, zines, prints and objects. Kulavoor uses this range of mediums to make references to the modernised life, changing architecture and landscapes, and chaotic scenes common to metropolises, particularly his hometown, Mumbai.
Alongside his career as a visual artist, Kulavoor also runs the independent studio space, Bombay Duck Designs, and the visual arts magazine, 100%ZINE.
The artist lives and works in Mumbai.
