Born in 1980 in New Delhi, Remen Chopra received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Painting from the College of Art, New Delhi. In 2001, she studied Art History and Language in Siena, through an Italian Cultural Exchange Program and in 2003, she completed a Diploma course in photography from the School of Phototechnic in New Delhi.
Chopra’s multi-layered works executed mostly in mixed media appear to shift back and forth between the real and the make-believe. The artist’s imagery is drawn mostly from her own experiences, while the element of drama present in these works is directly influenced by the media and cinema. Making a point, Chopra directs our attention toward the irony of the dramatic, both in real moments and in scripted ones.
Over the years Chopra has participated in a number of group shows, the most recent being ‘Art Against Terrorism’ at Emami Chisel, Kolkata, in 2009; 'Everything' organized by Willem Baars Projects and Bose Krishnamachari at Westerhuis, Amsterdam, in 2008; ‘in-sid-er’ at Bodhi Art, Mumbai, in 2007; 'Harrowing Reality' at the School of Visual Art Gallery, New York, in 2007; ‘Multiplicity and Self’ at the Visual Arts Gallery, New Delhi, in 2006; and ‘Cross Poly Nations’ at Provincia di Milano in conjunction with the Visual Art Gallery, New Delhi, in 2006.
