Naiza Khan is a multidisciplinary artist. She was born in Bahawalpur, Pakistan in 1968. She first trained at the Wimbledon College of Arts, London before earning her BFA from the Ruskin School of Art, Somerville College, University of Oxford and her MA from Somerville College, University of Oxford. She also holds an MA from the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths, University of London.
Khan’s work is a result of intensive research, documentation and cartography. The materiality of her works hold special significance as she is an artist notably aware of the process of creation. She has worked with archival material and video, sculpture and drawing to interrogate colonialism, social memory and the development of infrastructure.
She has been exhibited globally including in Pakistan, India, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, South Korea, Norway and the Netherlands; and at Art Dubai in 2008, Cairo Biennale in 2010, Shanghai Biennale in 2012, Kochi-Muziris Biennale and Colombo Art Biennale in 2016 and the Havana Biennale in 2019.
Her work was shown at Pakistan’s first national pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale.
Khan lives and works in London and Karachi.
