Khanna, a professional photographer for the last 20 years, was born in 1957 in New Delhi. He worked as a calculator salesman, garments quality checker and a busboy before embarking on a 12-year stint as a client-servicing executive in advertising. He left the world of advertising
in 1990 and moved on to photography. In the last two decades, he has been
creating images for Advertising, Editorial and Corporate clients, besides traveling around India incessantly to pursue his personal photographic projects.
Khanna’s work is about colour, texture, people and a pleasure in visuality – the use of sight, rather than words, as a way of knowing the world. During his travels in India, he seeks to uncover the deeper and
private face of spirituality.
Khanna’s work has been shown in solo
and group shows in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Benares, London, Edinburgh, Davos, San Francisco and New York. His most recent solo show was ‘Tirtha - A Spiritual Journey’, New Delhi, 2007. His work was also part of the group exhibitions ‘Wide Angle’, Alliance Francaise, New Delhi, 2009; ‘Wide Angle 2010’, The Stainless Gallery, New Delhi, 2010; ‘Freedom’, Gallerie Nvya, New Delhi, 2010 and ‘Where Three Dreams
Cross’, Whitechapel Gallery, London, and Winterthur Gallery, Zurich, 2010. He has also done two pictorial books: Bazaar, Penguin Global, 2001, and Living Faith, Penguin Studio, 2003, and is working on his third, Benares – Everyday in Eternity. Khanna lives and works in Gurgaon, India.
