Although the first Buccellati store was opened in 1919 by Mario Buccellati in Milan, making gold and silver jewelry has been the main occupation of the Buccellati family since Contardo Buccellati set up as a silversmith in 1750. Over the years, the Buccellati name became synonymous with exquisite jewelry crafted by hand in gold and silver, and the Milanese firm opened stores in various Italian cities and in New York and Palm Beach in the United States. Though it is still a family enterprise, the current Chairman and chief designer, Mario’s son Gianmaria, expanded the business significantly by opening stores in Paris, London, Los Angeles, Aspen, Tokyo and Moscow, and offering fine watches and objects d’art in addition to jewelry and silverware. Each piece produced by the Buccellati Group is conceived and designed by Gianmaria and his son, Andrea, and produced in by the skilled artisans of its Italian workshops. Gianmaria’s wife, Rosie, and his other children, Gino and Maria Cristina, are also involved in the business.
