Born in January 1966, Athiveera Pandian received his Diploma in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai, in 1989 and followed it up with a Master's degree in Fine Arts (Painting) from the same institution in 2002.
Pandian's abstracts are easily recognizable for their character and style. He prefers to use larger-format surfaces, and the technique he uses to depict his amorphous ideas, impressions, and emotional responses creates a surreal idiom. Through his choice of colours and contrasts, the artist creates an ethereal atmosphere.
Pandian has exhibited his works in India and internationally, including at the exhibitions 'In the Fore', Noble Sage Gallery, London, in 2008; 'Maya', Art World, Chennai, in 2007; Tenth Planet', Apparao Art Gallery, Chennai, in 2007; and 'Kaleidoscope', Ayya Art Gallery, Mumbai and Kolkata, in 2007.
His awards include amongst others, ones from State Lalit Kala Akademi, Tamil Nadu, in 1997; the Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, in 1992-94; and the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 1992.
