Aisha Khalid was born in Faisalabad, Pakistan in 1972. She earned her Bachelor in Fine Arts from National College of Art, Lahore in 1997 with a specialisation in miniature painting and got her Post-Graduate Degree in Fine Art from Rijksakademie, Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 2002.
Khalid works with the traditional miniature painting style but uses its stylised and ornamental mode as a stark contrast for her themes. She merges geometry with botanical studies to create boldly political works that are influenced by her firsthand knowledge of gender and the differences and flow of power between East and West.
Her works have been exhibited internationally including in the cities of London, Delhi, New York, Karachi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Mumbai and Copenhagen, and in institutions like the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Royal Academy, London, the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at QAGOMA, Australia, and the Fukuoka Museum, Japan, among others.
Khalid lives and works in Pakistan.
