EXHIBITION - Modern Indian Art (May 13-16, 2001) :

The SaffronArt & Pundole Modern Indian Art Exhibition

This event is a landmark exhibition for Indian Contemporary Art, featuring close to 130 paintings by 12 of India’s leading contemporary artists. The works which are available for purchase are considered either historically or stylistically significant within the realm of modern Indian art. This exhibition is probably the largest international showing of museum quality modern Indian art by artists such as M.F. Husain, Tyeb Mehta, V.S. Gaitonde and S.H. Raza, some of whom will be present at the show. Several of these works have not been displayed prior to this exhibition, and date back from the 1950s to the 70s, a critical period for the roots of contemporary art in India, and especially for the artists represented. This exhibition is curated by Dadiba Pundole, who owns and manages the Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai, a gallery specializing in modern and contemporary Indian art. The works have been carefully selected with the aim of exhibiting the richness and depth of Indian modern art rather than just exoticising it, a growing concern among those in the Asian contemporary art community.

Visit our exhibition at the Metropolitan Pavilion, New York, from May 13 - 16, 2001 or browse through the works right here! For any queries you can contact us at [email protected].
