Ravi Shah was born in 1978, in Warsaw, Poland. Exposed to art from an early age by his mother, an art critic, Shah formally studied painting and sculpture at several institutions, including the M.S. University, Baroda, in 1996-97; the Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw, in 1997-98; the Academy of Fine Arts, Edinburgh, in 1999; and the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat College of Fine Arts, Bangalore, in 2001-03.

Apart from his carved wood sculptures, Shah's body of work includes sculptures in several other media, ink drawings, watercolours and photography as well. Some of the solo exhibitions in which the artist's works have been featured include 'Twotally One' at Gallery Sumukha, Chennai, in 2011; ‘Natural Dimensions’ at the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore in 2011; at Meeta's Protospace, Bangalore, in 2010; at No.1 Shanti Road, Bangalore, in 2009; 'Recent Sculptures by Ravi Shah' at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, in 2008; and 'Stillness...Moves(US) by Ravi Shah' and 'Wood 'N Blues' at Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore, in 2008 and 2004 respectively. Shah's works have also been featured in several group exhibitions in India, Belgium, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The artist lives and works in Bangalore.
