Vuillard's artistic training began at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he first met Pierre Bonnard. In 1888, whilst studying at the Académie Julian, Vuillard joined the avant-garde group later knows as Les Nabis, or 'The Prophets', whose members also included Bonnard, Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier.
