This set of three publications, all dating to the 1960s, underscores the high regard in which F.N. Souza was held in London at the time. Having made his name in both artistic and literary circles, Souza was frequently requested to contribute prose, poetry and artwork for various periodicals and books. The issue of the literary magazine Encounter included in this lot, co-edited by Souza's friend Stephen Spender who published his writing for the first time in the same magazine in 1955. For this 1962 issue, Souza contributed five drawings to be published with Aldous Huxley's essay on art, "Unpainted Landscapes". In the iternation of the Springtime anthology included in this lot, co-edited and published by Peter Owen, Souza's essay "Lazarus" features in the prose section. Other writers featured include Nissim Ezekiel, Muriel Spark and Souza's first gallerist Victor Musgrave. The Art Game, written by the renowned art critic and editor Robert Wraight, is the third publication included in this lot. Regarded infamously in its time as a tell-all expose of the art market, this volume includes a portrait of the author by F.N. Souza next to its title page.
