Bhanu Shah began his artistic career in 1965 at the M S University of Baroda. Shah was one of the founding members of the Progressive Painters’ Group in Ahmedabad. Working in a multitude of different mediums, Shah initially created landscape paintings before moving on to depict more abstract scenes. Inspired by Hindustani classical music, especially that of Ajay Chakrabarty, Shah created paintings influenced by the ragas.

Shah’s work has been exhibited globally. His most significant exhibition was in Auckland, New Zealand, and proceeds from the show were donated to the Child Cancer Foundation. Apart from his prolific career as an artist, Shah was also instrumental in setting up the Kite Museum in Ahmedabad. Built by Le Corbusier, the museum has garnered worldwide acclaim, earning Shah the affectionate nickname of Ahmedabad's "Kite Man". The artist currently lives and works in Mumbai.
