Nandi, the vehicle of Shiva and Parvati, is known by several names, including Basaveshwara and Nandikeswara. He also serves as Shiva's messenger and door guardian, or dwarpal. For this reason, his sculpture is placed at the entrance to Shiva temples. The Nandi on offer has smooth curves and a sturdy body. Many of its features are well-preserved: we see its horns, ears, eyes, the threads around its neck, its hump and its tail.
