This bronze figure from the Pudukottai region of Tamil Nadu shows a horse with a rider seated on top. The rider is shown firmly seated on his beast. His hair style, eyes and moustache are reminiscent of sculptures from the slightly earlier Nayak dynasty. The horse is well decorated and the saddle has an unusual shape. The simplicity, patina and minimalism make this bronze icon an appealing work.
