Born in 1980, Prajjwal Choudhury graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts in Painting from the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in 2003, and went on to complete his Masters in Visual Arts in Printmaking from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, in 2006. He continued his relationship with the institution as a Visiting Lecturer with the Faculty of Fine Arts from 2011-2012.

Chowdhury’s forte lies in transforming quotidian objects into mesmerising works of art. He works extensively with matchboxes, making allusions to a wide range of artists and their works, including Andy Warhol, Picasso, Damien Hirst, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, Dhruva Mistry, Jitish Kallat, Subodh Gupta and Atul Dodiya. Each creation is composed of a plethora of visuals and colours, drawing the viewer to reinterpret the use and aesthetics of everyday objects.
Chowdhury has been conferred with a number of prestigious awards, including the H.K. Kejriwal Young Artist Award, 2012; Seoksu Art Project – Asia Arts Link (AAL), organized by SAP, 2011; ‘Emerging Asian Artist Award’, Art Gwangju, South Korea, 2010; and ‘Asia Pacific Artists Fellowship’ with a six-month residency in National Art Studio, Goyang, National Museum of South Korea, 2010.
His first solo exhibition, ‘Drift’, took place at Project 88, Mumbai, in 2008.
